Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas has put a plan into motion to help evacuees who have come to the area to escape Hurricane Isaac.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, Catholic Charities will have a financial aid distribution site set up at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Center, 700 Jefferson, Beaumont.
Financial assistance in the form of gift cards valid for gas, food or medications will be distributed to those who qualify. In order to qualify for assistance, one must demonstrate proof of residency in a county or parish that was given a mandatory evacuation order or that was encouraged to consider voluntary evacuation by civic officials.
The distribution site will be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 31. Tentative hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, depending on need. For updated information about the Sept. 1 and 2 hours, please call (409) 924-4410.
Volunteers are needed to help. A Disaster Response volunteer training session is set for 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 at the Catholic Charities Central Services Facility, 2780 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont. Those interested in the training are asked to register by calling (409) 924-4410.
