Catechumens and candidates made their first public step in the RCIA process as they gathered for the Rite of Election Feb. 26 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, Beaumont. The Liturgy of the Word was celebrated in two separate ceremonies by Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD.
“You are chosen by God. You are called by name. It’s a wonderful thing that God would call you to become part of His body, the church. He’s calling you to become more like His son, our Lord and savior Jesus Christ,” Bishop Guillory said.
The Rite of Election is the first public step in the RCIA process. It marks the beginning of the more intense preparation for the sacraments of initiation, baptism, confirmation and Eucharist.
After each Liturgy of the Word attendees gathered in the parish hall for a reception. During the reception the catechumens and candidates had a chance to meet Bishop Guillory personally.
