Pro-lifers hit the street

During October people throughout the nation will take to the streets for a cause they believe in. They will gather on road sides with signs letting travelers see their support for the pro-life movement.

The pro-life movement holds to the belief that all life is sacred from the moment of conception until natural death. October is also known as Respect Life Month. The Life Chain is an ecumenical event bringing together different faiths for the same cause. (more…)

Feast of St. Francis of Assisi

Parishioners with furry friends, and those with scales or feathers as well, will want to mark their calendars because the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi is approaching. Catholic Relief Services is rapidly scaling up its response in the Horn of Africa, committing to a five-year strategy that will directly address the short, medium, and long-term needs of hundreds of thousands of people living in drought-affected areas of Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.

In addition to providing emergency relief to the worst affected communities, as well as to Somali refugees in one of the Dadaab camps in Kenya, CRS is committed to a long-term response that will focus on building the resiliency of communities to lessen the impact of future drought. (more…)

Rain doesn’t stop festivities in Liberty

Despite the scattered showers parishioners at Immaculate Conception, Liberty, turned out for the parish festival Sept 18. Fresh Mexican food and activities for the kids were the order of the day.

Diocese rewarded for being green

The Diocese of Beaumont was awarded an incentive check of $13,060.85 Sept. 15 from Entergy Texas, Inc.’s Commercial Solutions Program for increasing the energy efficiency of the lighting and air conditioning systems in the new Pastoral Center. The no-cost Commercial Solutions Program provides technical and financial support to help commercial facilities identify and implement energy efficiency upgrade projects. (more…)

Catholic a la Carte returns

After a summer hiatus Catholic a la Carte is back with a new location and a new format. The young adult event will now be held at the Lamar Catholic Student Center and will also be a potluck.

“I really wanted to make it more of an event for the students on campus and give it a different feel. We’re asking everyone to bring their favorite dishes. I’ll be presenting a discussion on the new translation of the Roman Missal,” Father Shane Baxter, director of campus ministry, said. (more…)

The Serra Club of Beaumont held a benefit fish fry at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Beaumont, Sept. 11. Proceeds from the fish fry will go toward supporting local seminarians studying for the priesthood. (more…)
