Though it was a time of fear and uncertainty 10 years ago, during the noon Mass at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, Beaumont, in memory of Sept. 11, love was the overwhelming emotion.
“God has created us to be at peace with each other. He has created us to love one another because it is love that keeps it all together,” Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, said during his homily.
Four local first responders, Reginald Phelps of the Beaumont Fire Department, Sgt. Lee Williams of the U.S. Army, Danny Valdez of the Beaumont Police Department and Max Nguyen of the Beaumont Emergency Medical Services, carried a 12 foot replica of the Ground Zero Cross into St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica and placed it at the foot of the altar.
Bishop Guillory was also presented with a molten relic from Ground Zero that will later be formed into an olive branch and placed with the cross at the Pilgrims Place of Peace at the corner of Trinity and Wall Streets.
