Sour Lake parish blesses new building

August 30, 2010 by easttexascatholic

Parishioners at Our Lady of Victory, Sour Lake, had reason to celebrate Aug. 29 when the new education and office building was dedicated and blessed. In 2008 the education building was struck by lightening and lost in a fire.

Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, celebrated Mass before the blessing of the building.

“St. Paul told us, if one part of the body suffers we all suffer. If one part rejoices, we all rejoice. If you want to live a joyous life you have to realize that you are dependant on God and on others,” Bishop Guillory said during his homily.

After Mass Bishop Guillory accompanied Father Martin Nelson, priest in residence at Our Lady of Victory, to the new building and blessed it. Father Nelson thanked all those who made the day possible.

“I mostly want to send a thank you to the local fire fighters. Our building was struck by lightening, and it was witnessed. The fire fighters got here in time to save our parish hall. I’m just so thankful that you guys were able to help us,” Father Nelson said.

Father Nelson thanked the parishioners who gave of their time, talent and treasure and especially the building committee who helped from inception all the way through the construction process.
