It was a day of looking back and also a day to look forward as Blessed Sacrament, Beaumont, kicked off its 95th anniversary celebration with a Mass and luncheon May 6. Josephite Father Rodney Armstrong, former pastor of Blessed Sacrament, gave the homily at Mass.
“How fitting it is that we would celebrate this milestone on the feast day of the Blessed Sacrament. Today is a day for remembering your past and the shoulders you stand on,” Father Armstrong said.
Father Armstrong talked about the history of Blessed Sacrament, from its humble beginnings in 1915 to where it has come today and all those who have been a part of it.
“This is the mother church of the diocese for the African American community. This area forgets it, but in fact this is the mother church for all the African American churches in the Golden Triangle,” Father Armstrong said.
After Mass those in attendance were invited across the street for a picnic lunch and fellowship.
