Local priest taking gulf crisis to satellite radio

Father Sinclair Oubre, president of Apostleship of the Sea U.S.A., will be taking the concerns of local fishermen and merchant mariners to satellite radio June 28 on the Busted Halo Show with Father Dave Dwyer.
Father Oubre said he’ll be explaining what Apostleship of the Sea is as well as voicing the recent concerns of the people of the sea over the oil spill in the Gulf. He stressed that many people have the notion that all seafood from the Gulf of Mexico is being affected, but it’s not.
“They are fishing west of Morgan City,” Father Oubre added.

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Throughout his five-year pontificate, Pope Benedict XVI has made some of his most interesting comments off the cuff, often during question-and-answer sessions with priests.
His late-night meeting with 10,000 priests June 10 was a good example. Although questions were prepared in advance, the pope’s responses were unfiltered and impromptu — the kind of “organized spontaneity” for which his mind is apparently hard-wired. (more…)

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Pope Benedict XVI appealed for an end to ethnic violence in Kyrgyzstan and urged the international community to provide humanitarian aid to the civilian population in the Central Asian country.
The pope’s appeal came after several days of clashes between ethnic Uzbeks and Kyrgyz left hundreds dead and hundreds of thousands displaced. (more…)
