
It was a joyous celebration Oct. 24 as parishioners gathered to celebrate the 80th anniversary of St. James Parish, Port Arthur.
Bishop Curtis Guillory, S.V.D., celebrated Mass and wished the parish many more years of service. Several parishioners wore red shirts in honor of the anniversary, and Bishop Guillory said he hopes it’s a sign they will continue to set the church on fire with the love of God.
After Mass, parishioners reminisced about the past and celebrated the anniversary in Kirwin Hall.
St. James was established Oct. 12, 1929, and the original church was dedicated Jan. 30, 1930 by Bishop Christopher Byrne. Father James M. Kirwin was named its first pastor
